How To Change the Dial Up Phone Number on your Computer

NEW DIAL UP NUMBER 0198333128

  • I understand not everybody knows what the terms "click" "open" etc mean. So here is a very brief guide to windows terminology. (You can skip this and go to the windows version you have on your computer if you understand these terms)

    1. Always use your left mouse button UNLESS we say "use your right mouse button" (of course if you have your mouse setup for a left hander this is reversed)

    2. "click" means put the mouse pointer over the object indicated and click the left mouse button. Sometimes you click once and sometimes you have to "double click" depending on the object and the way windows is set up. Both one click and double click are refered to as "click" its up to you to figure out if its one or double click required.

    3. "open" generally refers to clicking on a folder or a file with your left mouse button.

    4. Our new number 0198333128 does NOT require an "area code". It wont work if you put an area code in front of the number. If you see a box labelled area code when your changing the number make sure it is empty.

    5. If something is not clear READ THE HELP FILES it is amazing how much information is in the helpfiles and how a 5 minute read can clear every thing up. When people ring us to find out how to do something we generally click on help and read the help file as its impossible to remember everything.

If the information you want isnt in the helpfile you have the worlds greatest libary at your fingertips just go to www.google.com and type in your query - the odds are you will find what your looking for.

HOW TO Change the DIAL UP Number.

If you have WINDOWS XP OR VISTA

    1. Start to dial up as you normally would when you go on the Internet. When the Connection screen appears with your user name and password on it go to step 2.
(If you do step 1 and your computer actually starts to dial and doesnt stop at the connection screen you need to disable automatic dial up.)
    2. If you see a telephone number on the connection screen, then change it to 0198333128. Windows will prompt you to make the change permanent. Clicking yes is all you need to do to change the access number.
    3. If you don't see a telephone number on the connection screen just "Click" on the "Properties" button at the bottom of the screen. Delete the current telephone number and type in the new number 0198333128 then dial in IMPORTANT Delete anything in the "Area Code" box and dont type anything in this box (0198 numbers wont work if there is an area code)
    4. If after you have changed the number and try to dial in you get a message come up "Incorrect username or password" it means windows has lost your password. To fix this bring up the connection screen again and click in the Password box where it says "click here to change password". You will then see a screen that has a pPassword box you can type into. Just type your password in the box and click on the OK button.
